Escape the chaos of the city by seeking refuge in the urban oasis of Nan Lian Garden, a Tang Dynasty-styled classical garden. The Garden Route will take you through a banyan grove, landscaped pines, and a habitat for local birds. While you walk, notice the four "traditional garden" elements - hillocks and rocks, water features, timber structures, and ornamental trees. A leisurely pace will take you an hour to the exit.
Within the garden behind a waterfall is Chi Lin Vegetarian, a serene restaurant that serves contemporary and healthy meat-free fare, including dim sum and stuffed tofu. The set menu lunch is very good. After your stroll, head to the tranquil Chi Lin Nunnery, which was constructed without using a single nail! The large Buddhist temples and art add to the peace of this place.
Meeting point: The Main Gate. To reach Nan Lian Garden, take the Kwun Tong line to Diamond Hill or Choi Hung stations.
Leaders, the Garden and restaurant both close at 4:30pm.
