For such a progressive and cash-rich city, Hong Kong has relatively few art galleries and museums. That said, international galleries have noticed the potential for success in Hong Kong and have recently opened outposts here. Many of the city's great galleries are a hop, skip, and jump away from each other in Central making a self-guided art gallery crawl both easy and convenient for Trabblrs. Here we go!
First stop and meeting point: White Cube Hong Kong is the first of White Cube's galleries to be located outside the UK. It's known for bringing pieces from world-renowned artists, including Damien Hirst and Gilbert & George, to the city.
Second stop: Saamlung is trying to fill a gap between global behemoths such as White Cube and local galleries. Many consider it to be the smartest and best-curated gallery in Hong Kong. To get here from White Cube, simply make a left on Connaught Road to Two Chinachem Plaza. The gallery is on the top floor.
Third stop: Gagosian and Hanart TZ. Both of these galleries are located in the Pedder Building on 12 Pedder Street. To get here from Saamlung, head south on Des Voeux Rd. towards Central station. Make a right on Pedder St.
Meeting point: Inside White Cube by the entrance. To get to White Cube, take the E1 exit at Hong Kong Station on the Tung Chung Line and walk to 50 Connaught Rd.
Leaders, most of the art galleries are open from 11am to 7pm Tuesday to Saturday.
