When you think of San Francisco, the first image that probably comes to mind is the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Named after the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean, America's most famous suspension bridge has been declared a Wonder of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The bridge connects San Francisco to California's northern suburban counties - now that's one commute that we wouldn't mind making everyday!
If walking across the Golden Gate Bridge seems too "touristy" then we kind of feel sorry for you. Yeah, it's probably the number one thing for visitors to do in San Francisco, but there's a reason for that - it's simply beautiful. Few feelings come close to the exhilaration you'll experience when you're 70m above the deep blue water on one of the world's most powerful pieces of architecture. The 3.4 mile round-trip walk is also an invigorating experience - look down and you'll see sea lions playing, brown pelicans diving, and windsurfers skimming the surface.
While you can also bike across the bridge with a rental from Blazing Saddles, we suggest you use what evolution gave you and walk across. That way you can stop for photographs and views more easily.
Meeting point: In the Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Plaza.
