Thailand's economic crisis in 1997 triggered its government to build its economy on the basis of creativity and knowledge. The Thailand Creative & Design Center is an integral part of this plan where quality products and services are showcased to the public to promote interactions among creativity, skill, culture, and business.
The TCDC is split into a variety of areas, each worth exploring for those interested in design in general and Thai design in particular. For starters, there is the 800m^2 exhibition area where a permanent gallery strives to answer the question, "What is Design?" This gallery explores how ten countries renowned for their innovative design have each interpreted their cultural uniqueness into 20th century industrial design classics. Then there's the temporary exhibitions, which feature international design works. For a calendar of upcoming events, click here.
At the end of your visit, stop by the Shop@TCDC where you can purchase pieces of Thai design for your home, friends, and family. More than just a shop, Shop@TCDC encourages students, designers, and forward-thinking entrepreneurs to “think outside the box” when developing new products and services for today’s market.
Meeting point: Main entrance. The TCDC is located on the 6th floor of the Emporium Shopping Complex. The nearest BTS station is Phrom Phong on the Sukhumvit Line.
Leaders, the TCDC is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:30am-9pm.
