Tour the most popular modern art gallery in the world alongside other Trabblrs! Since opening in 2000, the Tate Modern has attracted over 40 million visitors; that's an average of 9,000 visitors a day! Visitors to the Museum are greeted by seven floors of artwork, including a variety of permanent collections (called collection displays) and visiting exhibitions. The current collection displays include:
- Poetry and Dream: Artworks explore Surrealism, or related themes such as the world of dreams, the unconscious, and archetypal myth.
- Structure and Clarity: Artworks explore the impact of abstraction on a variety of media such as film and photography, as well as looking at the minimalist art of the 1960s.
- Transformed Visions: Artworks explore the ongoing presence of the human figure within such works, as well as wider responses to violence and war.
- Energy and Process: Artworks explore the interest in transformation and natural forces.
Entry to the collection displays is free, though there are many incredible visiting exhibitions that are worth seeing but cost a fee (usually £10-15 per person).
Meeting point: We recommend that Trabblrs meet outside the museum, along the wall separating the two entrances. Start out with the collection displays and then check out some of the other exhibitions if they pique your collective interest!
Closest stations: Southwark and London Bridge on the Jubilee Line.
