Join fellow Trabblrs for a walk out to Haji Ali. Stick together as you pass a row of colorful shops, whose keepers are keen to sell anything from plastic elephants to women's scarves! Past the shops you will reach a narrow causeway surrounded by the sea that will take you to the tomb. The number of beggars that line the causeway can be overwhelming but remember that they're here for a reason - charity is one of the five pillars of Islam. Enter the dargah (tomb) at the end of the causeway through white marble gates and tour the large courtyard before heading into the tomb (gender segregated!) to pay respects to Haji Ali, a devout Muslim merchant who gave up worldly possessions to visit Mecca.
Once you return to the busy mainland, turn left to grab a delicious drink and snack at the Haji Ali Juice Center - perhaps the only juice stand in Mumbai that accepts all major credit cards!
Meeting point: Haji Ali Juice Center. To get there by taxi, tell the driver to take you to Haji Ali. They'll likely drop you at the intersection. If you're coming from the North (e.g., Worli, Bandra, Khar), you'll get dropped on the opposite side of this busy roadway. Use the "Subways", which are underground walkways, to make it to the other side.
Leaders, the tides will dictate when you can cross the causeway. Low tides are when you want to go, which is usually during the afternoon.
