What are some of your favorite memories of Pune?
Chaats at Manmeet, Masala Dosas at Vaishali Restauarant. Saturday evenings sipping Cold Coffee at Durga Cafe and Sunday morning breakfast of exotic omelettes at Zuby's. Shopping (rather haggling!) for coursebooks at ABC Chowk and pirated Harry Potter editions at Fergusson College Road.
What kind of practical information should first-time visitors know about Pune?
It is advisable to travel by autorickshaws, which are cheaper. However always carry the fare card as the rickshaw drivers tend to dupe outsiders. Avoid the buses as they are infrequent, unreliable and crowded. Sadly Pune has no taxicabs.
What are some precautions that people should take while exploring Pune?
If you are travelling on two wheelers during daytime, it is necessary to wear a scarf around your head and sunglasses to protect from the scorching afternoon heat. Restrict your travel to the daytime and avoid lonely roads such as the Law College Road unless you are travelling in a big group
Less than 5 minutes away from Shaniwarwada is the Laxmi Market which is renowned for its textiles. You will find an assortment of traditional Maharashtrian fabrics on display here.
One of the most important historical landmarks from the Independence movement. It served as a prison hosting inmates like Mahatama Gandhi during the later years of the Freedom Struggle. Consequently it was converted into a museum dedicated to the life and times of Gandhi.
The centre of Pune's academia also boasts of an incredible biodiversity within the boundaries of its enormous campus. A hike across this untouched wilderness on a rainy afternoon is a treat for those who enjoy the outdoors.

A palace fort, which was previously the seat of power of the Maratha Empire. It is located at the heart of the city, and is fortified by walls on all sides interspersed with enormous Entrance doors.

The location of the museum belies the treasures hidden inside it. An exhaustive collection of pieces capturing every aspect of the cultural history of the Maratha community. The highlight of the museum is the marvellous almost surreal re-creation of the Mastani Mahal!
A memorial to the Scindia clan. It houses a Shiva temple. The temple showcases the unique blend of architecture, sculpture and painting styles prevalent during the Peshwa rule. The rather obscure sparsely inhabited location of the temple lends an amazing spiritual energy to the place.
