Ahmedabad, India Guide by Nipun P. Status: Currently live here (since 1 Apr, 1986)

What are some of your favorite memories of Ahmedabad?
Celebrating the festivals is just great in this city. Though I love it more for the food.

How would you spend 36 hours in Ahmedabad?
One day spend on the heritage walk in the old city and enjoy the ancient architecture and the way the old houses were built. A great place to have local street food. Day two would be to see the mosques and step wells on the outskirts of the city and end up with a traditional gujarati dinner at Vishala

What kind of practical information should first-time visitors know about Ahmedabad?
Its very hot during summer. Best time to visit is from September to March. People of Ahmedabad are very friendly and its best to mix up with the locals to enjoy the various festivals of India. For transportation its best to use Rickshaw, but the drivers cheat a lot. Buses are very cheap and the new BRTS system once fully operational will be of great help.

What are some precautions that people should take while exploring Ahmedabad?
Its a very safe city for single female travelers, but still be careful while in crowded buses or places. Girls would be better off if dressed a little conservatively while in the old city. Rest people are quiet friendly and helpful. Beware of the rickshaw drivers, they cheat a lot.
