New York, NY, USA Guide by Ashwin P. Status: Lived here (1 Aug, 2002 - 1 May, 2009)

New York is one of the world's truly great cities - and you'll know it the moment you land. You'll always get a million pieces of advice about places to go and things to see if you're travelling to NYC, but one of the greatest things about the place is that there's a brilliant restaurant/bar/park around almost every corner. Visiting once just isn't enough!

  • Museum of Modern Art, West 53rd Street, New York, NY

One of the best museums in the city. A bit pricey to enter, but entirely worth it. A great permanent collection of modern art classics and always interesting new exhibitions

  • Halal Guys, Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY

Best late night post drunk street food in the city! Service rice and chicken or lamb (best to get both!) with the super secret, super delicious white sauce. And some extra spicy hot sauce as well (be warned). Lines always stretch around the block, but the patient - it's truly worth it

  • Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien, West 56th Street, New York, NY

A not-so-secret secret burger joint, hidden away behind a set of heavy drapes of the Le Parker Meridien Hotel. Step through the drapes and you are transported from the uber-posh hotel lobby into something much more friendly. The burger options are limited, but that's part of the charm.

  • Koronet Pizza, Broadway, New York

Biggest slice of pizza in the city, and for only a couple dollars. Satisfying the drunken cravings of Columbia University students since before time

  • Blind Tiger, Bleecker Street, New York, NY

Excellent little bar (it really is tiny) serving a great selection of American microbrews, and a truly phenomenal grilled cheese sandwich in the during daylight hours

  • Fat Cat, Christopher Street, New York, NY

A fun bar with tons of games to play while getting your buzz on - from table tennis and pool to air hockey and many others. Be sure to go on one of their many jazz nights

  • Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, West 125th Street, New York, NY

A brilliant BBQ joint (originally from upstate NY) in an seldom visited part of town

  • Central Park, East 60th Street, New York, NY

Be sure to catch the annual Summerstage Music festival in Central Park - nothing beats a great live band in one of the best parks in the world!

  • Yankee Stadium, East 161st Street, Bronx, NY

Love 'em or hate 'em, catching a game at Yankee stadium is a must for sports lovers.

  • Washington Square Park, New York, NY

A great place to just sit and watch the world go buy. You can make an entire day of people watching here
